Common Pedestrian Accidents in Camden

Pedestrian accidents are a seriousPedestrian Struck by Truck at Clark & Mayor Kennedy St concern in Camden, where busy roadways and frequent foot traffic often intersect. Locations such as Route 30, Admiral Wilson Boulevard, and the downtown corridors see high volumes of vehicles and pedestrians, creating conditions where accidents can occur. Many of these crashes happen at intersections, crosswalks, or along poorly lit streets, where visibility is limited.

Common causes of pedestrian accidents in Camden include:

  • Failure to yield at crosswalks: Drivers who do not stop for pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks put lives at risk.
  • Distracted driving: Using cell phones or other devices while driving can cause drivers to miss seeing people crossing.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed reduces reaction time, making it harder for drivers to stop when a pedestrian steps into the road.
  • Poor visibility: Accidents frequently happen at night or during adverse weather when pedestrians are harder to see.
  • Left-hand turns at intersections: Drivers focusing on oncoming traffic may overlook someone walking in the crosswalk.

Unfortunately, pedestrians are among the most vulnerable road users. With little protection against vehicles, even low-speed crashes can result in severe injuries, including head trauma, broken bones, and spinal injuries. In the worst cases, fatalities occur, as seen in recent incidents in Camden.

City officials and safety advocates continue to push for improved street lighting, better crosswalk markings, and traffic-calming measures to reduce risks. Still, awareness from both drivers and pedestrians is key to preventing future tragedies.
