Carneys Point, NJ (October 19, 2025) – A devastating wrong-way crash on the New Jersey Turnpike left four people dead and another seriously injured on Sunday, October 19.

The crash happened just after 12:40 a.m. near mile marker 1.3 on the southbound side of the highway. Investigators said 41-year-old Christopher Neff of Westminster, Colorado, drove a Dodge pickup truck northbound in the southbound lanes when he slammed head-on into a Mazda SUV traveling in the left lane.

The impact caused catastrophic damage and pushed the Mazda into the path of a Freightliner tractor-trailer driving behind it. The semi hit the SUV again, worsening the destruction and scattering debris across the highway.

The Mazda’s driver, 19-year-old Yaakov Kilberg of Lakewood, and three passengers, 18-year-olds Aharon Lebovits and Shlomo Cohen, both of Lakewood, and Chaim Grossman of Fallsburg, New York, died at the scene. Authorities said the four were Yeshiva students traveling during a school break.

Neff sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The truck driver, 29-year-old Harpret Singh Sandhu of Nova Scotia, was not injured.

Troopers and crash reconstruction teams spent several hours examining the scene, documenting the wreckage, and interviewing witnesses to determine why Neff was traveling the wrong way. The New Jersey State Police are continuing to investigate and are expected to release additional details as the case develops.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families grieving this heartbreaking loss. Our thoughts are also with the injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

If you lost a loved one in a car accident, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
