Readington Twp, NJ (October 31, 2025) – On Thursday evening, October 30, around 9:15 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a head-on accident involving injuries near Route 202 in Readington Township. The collision was reported as caused by a wrong-way driver.
Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that two patients were entrapped in the vehicles. Two more emergency units were added to the scene to assist with extrication. Due to weather conditions and the closure of Route 202, air transport via NorthSTAR was declined, and responders began the process of side removal on the first vehicle while requesting a second advanced life support (ALS) unit for assistance.
By 9:36 p.m., the first patient had been successfully extricated, and the second patient’s removal was completed by 9:49 p.m. Both patients were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities have not yet released detailed information on the severity of their injuries.
We extend our hopes for a full recovery for both individuals affected by this serious crash.
Common Safety Measures and Risks on New Jersey Highways
Traffic accidents like the one
on Route 202 in Readington Township demonstrate the hazards drivers face on New Jersey roadways, especially on highways where speeds are higher and wrong-way driving can have catastrophic consequences. Understanding common risks and safety measures can help prevent such incidents.
- Wrong-way driving: One of the most dangerous situations on highways is a vehicle traveling against traffic. Drivers must stay alert to on-ramp signs, road markings, and lane directions to avoid entering a roadway incorrectly.
- Distracted driving: Mobile phones, navigation systems, eating, or other in-vehicle distractions can divert a driver’s attention, increasing the likelihood of a collision.
- Speeding: High speeds reduce reaction time and increase the force of impact in crashes. Maintaining speed limits and adjusting for weather conditions is critical.
- Weather hazards: Rain, fog, or icy roads can drastically reduce visibility and traction, making accidents more likely. Drivers should slow down and increase following distance during adverse conditions.
- Vehicle maintenance and preparedness: Regular checks of brakes, tires, lights, and safety systems help prevent mechanical failures that can contribute to collisions.
- Defensive driving: Remaining aware of surrounding vehicles, anticipating potential hazards, and avoiding aggressive maneuvers are essential strategies to stay safe on highways.
By adhering to these safety measures, many serious accidents can be prevented. Traffic accidents can result in significant injuries, emotional stress, and financial burdens for victims and their families.
