Egg Harbor Twp, NJ (October 13, 2025) – On Sunday afternoon, October 12, two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on the Atlantic City Expressway in Egg Harbor Township.
According to reports from the New Jersey State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. near milepost 9.8 eastbound. Investigators said Enrique Velasquez, 39, of Brighton, Tennessee, was traveling east when he reportedly lost control of his Honda, causing the vehicle to spin and face west in the eastbound lanes. Moments later, a Chevrolet SUV driven by Vladimir Valery, 49, of Berlin, Camden County, collided head-on with the disabled Honda.
Both Velasquez and Valery sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. A passenger in Valery’s vehicle, Rahsher Jone-Sanon, 50, of Sicklerville, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Traffic was diverted at Exit 9 for several hours while emergency personnel cleared the scene and investigators documented evidence. The crash remains under investigation by the New Jersey State Police.
We extend our best wishes to all those injured and hope for their full recovery.
Compensation for Motor Vehicle Accidents in New Jersey
Victims of serious motor vehicle
accidents often face not only physical pain but also months of financial and emotional hardship. Under New Jersey law, those injured in a crash may be entitled to various forms of compensation depending on the extent of their injuries, the impact on their daily lives, and the circumstances surrounding the collision.
- Medical expenses: Compensation may include all reasonable and necessary medical costs resulting from the crash. This covers emergency room visits, hospital stays, surgeries, diagnostic tests, medications, physical therapy, and long-term rehabilitation. In cases involving lasting injuries, victims may also be reimbursed for future medical care, such as follow-up surgeries, specialist consultations, and assistive devices like braces or mobility aids.
- Lost wages: Accident victims are often unable to return to work immediately due to their injuries. Compensation for lost wages allows them to recover the income they would have earned during their recovery period, including any missed bonuses, overtime, or other employment benefits. For self-employed individuals, financial records or tax returns may be used to demonstrate the loss of income caused by the accident.
- Loss of earning capacity: When injuries result in long-term disability or reduced physical ability, victims may qualify for damages related to the loss of future earning potential. This includes situations where a person is no longer able to perform their prior job duties, must take a lower-paying position, or is forced into early retirement because of permanent physical or cognitive limitations.
- Pain and suffering: Beyond economic losses, New Jersey law also allows victims to seek compensation for the physical pain, mental anguish, and emotional distress caused by an accident. This may include ongoing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and the loss of enjoyment of daily activities that the individual previously valued.
- Property damage: Victims may also recover the costs of repairing or replacing damaged vehicles and other personal property. This extends to rental vehicle expenses and diminished value claims if the vehicle cannot be restored to its original condition.
Because New Jersey follows a no-fault insurance system, a victim’s own insurance typically covers initial medical expenses and related costs, regardless of who was at fault. However, when injuries are severe, permanent, or disfiguring, victims may step outside the no-fault system to file an additional claim or lawsuit against the at-fault driver.
This is when a car accident lawyer comes in and can help investigate the crash, determine liability, and pursue fair compensation from insurers or responsible parties.
