Delran, NJ (October 10, 2025) – On Wednesday afternoon, October 8, emergency crews responded after a vehicle crashed through the glass entrance of the Virtua Health Physical Therapy and Rehab Center in Delran, Burlington County.
The crash occurred around 12:45 p.m., while several employees and patients were inside the facility. According to local fire officials, emergency crews arrived within minutes and found two workers trapped behind the reception desk. Both were rescued, evaluated at the scene, and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Authorities confirmed the driver remained at the scene and was not injured. Firefighters worked to clear shattered glass and debris after the vehicle came to a stop just feet from a nearby restaurant. The impact caused extensive damage to the front of the medical office, including broken windows, displaced furniture, and structural concerns that required immediate safety inspections.
The Delran Fire Department and local police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and whether the driver may face any charges.
We hope those involved in the accident make a full recovery.
Car Accidents Involving Buildings in New Jersey
Crashes in which a vehicle strikes
a building are particularly dangerous, often leading to severe injuries, extensive property damage, and major structural hazards. These incidents may happen in a variety of settings, from small storefronts and medical offices to residential buildings and restaurants, and can occur suddenly with little time for occupants to react.
Such accidents typically stem from driver error, pedal confusion, mechanical failure, or sudden medical emergencies that cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Pedal confusion is especially common among older or inexperienced drivers and happens when the accelerator is pressed instead of the brake, propelling the car forward into a structure. Poor weather conditions, high speed, or distractions behind the wheel can also increase the risk.
When a vehicle collides with a building, the impact can cause catastrophic results both inside and outside the structure. Flying debris, shattered glass, and collapsing materials can seriously injure employees, customers, or residents in the immediate area. People seated near windows or reception areas are particularly vulnerable to head injuries, fractures, and lacerations from debris. In addition, the force of the crash can destabilize walls, damage support beams, and create fire or electrical hazards that threaten everyone nearby.
Emergency responders must act quickly to secure the area, assess the stability of the structure, and provide medical care to anyone hurt in the collision. These events often require coordinated responses from firefighters, building inspectors, and law enforcement to prevent further injury or property loss.
