Compensation After Car Accidents in New Jersey
Car accidents can leave victims
with lasting consequences, from painful injuries to financial strain.
In New Jersey, those injured in motor vehicle accidents may be entitled to pursue compensation if another driver’s negligence played a role.
- Medical expenses: This can cover immediate needs such as ambulance transportation, emergency room care, hospital stays, surgeries, diagnostic tests, and prescription medications. It also extends to ongoing treatments, such as physical therapy, follow-up visits, rehabilitation programs, and long-term medical care, if the injuries require continued attention.
- Lost income: Accident victims often need time away from work to recover from their injuries. Compensation may include reimbursement for wages lost during recovery, as well as for missed work due to medical appointments, therapy sessions, or hospital stays.
- Future earning potential: Some injuries result in lasting physical limitations or disabilities that prevent a person from returning to their previous job or significantly reduce their ability to earn the same income in the future. In such cases, victims may be entitled to financial support for lost earning capacity.
- Pain and suffering: Beyond financial losses, victims may be compensated for the physical pain, emotional distress, trauma, anxiety, depression, or loss of enjoyment of life caused by the accident and its aftermath.
- Property damage: This includes the costs of repairing or replacing vehicles damaged in the crash, as well as any other personal property affected, such as electronic devices, car seats, or valuable items inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Navigating insurance claims and legal proceedings after a car accident can be overwhelming. Working with a skilled New Jersey car accident lawyer can help victims understand their rights, gather necessary evidence, and pursue the compensation they deserve.
