Trenton, NJ (September 22, 2025) – Late on Friday night, September 19, a tragic fire in Trenton claimed the life of an 18-year-old man, left three other people injured, and destroyed seven homes.

The blaze was reported just before 11 p.m. on the 1200 block of North Olden Avenue near Ellis Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames rapidly spreading through a row of homes. Witness video showed neighbors rushing to alert residents by banging on doors to help them escape.

One of the injured victims remains in critical condition, while two others are reported to be in stable condition. Among those hurt was a firefighter, according to Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora.

Officials said the fire quickly escalated to three alarms before being brought under control. In total, 22 people were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting families who lost their homes and belongings.

The identity of the young man who died has not yet been released. State fire inspectors are investigating the cause of the blaze.
